Healthwatch Luton Conducts Enter & View Visits to Local Mental Health Wards

Healthwatch Luton Carries Out Enter & View Visits to Luton’s Mental Health Wards

Healthwatch Luton has carried out a series of Enter & View visits to mental health wards in the borough to understand the experiences of patients, carers, and staff. As the independent champion for people who use health and social care services, we regularly visit services to observe care, speak with those receiving support, and identify opportunities for improvement.

During our visits, our trained Authorised Representatives spent time on the wards speaking with patients about their day-to-day experiences, including access to activities, communication with staff, involvement in care planning, privacy, safety, and the overall ward environment. We also gathered insight from staff members about pressures they face and examples of good practice.

The purpose of these visits is not to inspect or audit services, but to ensure that the voices of people using mental health services are heard and reflected in future service development. The feedback collected will now form the basis of a report that will be shared with service providers and system partners, highlighting what is working well and where improvements could be made.

Healthwatch Luton will work closely with the mental health trust to follow up on key findings and monitor progress against our recommendations. Our aim is to support a more person-centred, compassionate, and responsive mental health service for Luton residents.
