Tell us about your experience of leaving hospital
Have you or someone you care for recently been discharged from hospital? We want to hear about your experience.
Healthwatch Luton is supporting a national Healthwatch England project looking at people’s experiences of leaving hospital.
We want to understand what happens when people are ready to leave hospital – and whether they get home, or to the next stage of their care, safely and with the right support in place.
You may have experienced a delay in leaving hospital, even though you were medically ready to go home. Or perhaps you felt you were sent home too soon, without the information, equipment, care or support you needed.
Whatever your experience, we want to hear from you.

What do we want to know?
We are particularly interested in hearing about experiences where:
- your discharge from hospital was delayed
- you were unsure what was happening or when you would be able to leave
- arrangements for your care or support caused a delay
- you did not have the right equipment or support in place when you left
- communication about your discharge could have been better
- you felt you were discharged too early
- you did not feel ready or safe to leave hospital
- you are a carer or family member who supported someone through their discharge.
Positive experiences are important too. If your discharge was handled well and you felt informed and supported, we would like to understand what worked.
Why are we asking?
Your experience can help identify what is working well and where things need to improve.
The experiences gathered in Luton will contribute to wider national research by Healthwatch England. The findings will help Healthwatch raise the experiences of patients and carers with national decision-makers, including the NHS and Government.
The survey is open until 9 October 2026.
